Absolutely not!

Most of the LPWAN sensors are plain measuring sensors without any intrinsic intelligence. They sense, they digitalize and they send.

This article summarizes all the key factors that a designer or integrator should take under consideration in order to design and develop sensors for the IoT world. Sensors that will be battery operated and intelligent.

I will try to summarize some of the key factors that differentiate Fuelics Sensors with respect to the global competition. As a sensor manufacturing company, we are sourcing our electronic components having in mind the following specs.

  • Electronic Components
    • Components Quality
When targeting on a maintenance-free lifecycle of more than 10 years of robust operation, the quality of electronic components must be the highest possible
    • Components selection
Power optimization, low to zero leakages, low power design, operating temperatures and a lot of others component specifications should be carefully placed in a PCB design in order to reach excellence

As an R&D company we impregnate our sensors with intelligence having in mind the following specs.

  • Firmware
    • Architecture
Parallel processing, non-blocking processes, power optimization, modular segmentation, memory fragmentation and size optimization are some of key improvements and differentiators that we introduce on firmware architecture.
    • Edge computing in constrained devices
Mathematical and physical models running on micro-controller level in order to decisively improve the measurement quality and stability.
    • Intelligence
Power efficient data analysis, device level alerts and actions, device decision and optimization while on use, detection of abnormalities, light AI algorithms or pre-trained AI behaviors are SOME of the technologies that Fuelics modules bring in the IoT LPWA world.
    • Partial Firmware Update
Over-the-air Partial or Modular firmware update can save battery uptime, while offering upgraded functionality over the lifetime of the devices.
    • Remote Device Management
Over-the-air device management can change configuration of the device, can perform remote debugging and set specific or generally new optimized configurations remotely. Device management must be mandatory for installations in large geographical spread.
    • Encryption and Verification
Encryption and verification of the device is crucial on large scale installations.

These are some of reasons that make all LPWAN devices different and difficult to compare. Fuelics sensors utilize all the above-mentioned characteristics. Combined with the robustness of NBIoT protocol, Fuelics provides sensors for the Smart City Initiative in a global scale.
